Plastic Surgery Options

As your physical appearance matures, the plastic surgery options that yield the best results will change as well. Depending upon your unique aesthetic needs and physical characteristics, which change with age, some procedures are more suitable than others for achieving the look you desire. Learn more about cosmetic procedures that are commonly performed on people in your age group and watch our animated videos to find out if treatment is right for you. Please note that a full consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons is necessary to determine precisely which procedures will be safest and most effective for you.

Cosmetic Surgery Recommendations – by Age

  • In Your Teens
According to statistics provided by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, teenagers (aged 13-19) underwent more than 81,000 plastic surgery procedures in 2008. According to the organization, rhinoplasty, male breast reduction, and otoplasty (ear surgery) are the most common procedures performed on teens.
  • In Your 20s
Patients in their 20s typically do not have to worry about cosmetic concerns associated with age. Cosmetic surgery procedures performed on patients of this age group are aimed at improving a specific area of the face or body. Breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, and liposuction are some of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed on patients in their 20s. Skin care treatments are also popular amongst 20-somethings. Minimally invasive skin care procedures can improve the health and texture of the skin, and reduce the appearance of acne scars, sun damage, and other skin problems that can appear during adolescence.

    In Your 30s
Patients in their 30s should continue to protect and care for their skin and body in order to prolong the effects of aging. However, a proper skin care and exercise regimen is not always effective in treating wrinkles, accumulations of fat, and other cosmetic problems that come with age. It is becoming increasingly common for individuals of this age group to undergo cosmetic surgery and skin care procedures to maintain a youthful appearance. Aesthetic treatments are often extremely successful at this age due to good skin elasticity and less intensive facial and figure flaws.
  • In Your 40s
Men and women in their 40s typically begin to notice increased skin laxity in the face and body due to decreased skin elasticity. Depending upon the severity of wrinkles, loose skin, and excess fat affecting the face and body, your cosmetic surgeon may recommend less invasive skin care treatments or a surgical procedure that provides more dramatic results.
  • In Your 50s
Individuals in their 50s are usually most concerned with facial aging and are interested in undergoing facial plastic surgery and skin care treatments. Reconstructive plastic surgery procedures are also more common among patients in their 50s due to increased rates of breast and skin cancer.
  • In Your 60s and Above
As long as you are a considered a “good candidate” for plastic surgery, it can be performed at any age. Potential cosmetic surgery patients who are over 60 years of age should undergo a medical examination with their physician and plastic surgeon to ensure they are in good health and able to make a full recovery.
